As mentioned in the title of this post, my name is Cydney, my last name Wallace and as long as I can remember my dreams and goals have always been pretty out there. Thankfully I come from a family where both of my parents allowed me and all four of my siblings to find our path in life. They supported us in every sport, activity, form of art, and expression. That is why becoming a Filmmaking Major at Montclair State University was not very surprising to them. Academically, my goals are to walk away from every class with a complete understanding of the course. Currently, I am bettering my brand by collaborating with other aspiring filmmakers, both at Montclair and other Universities. I need to collaborate and make connections with people now so that we could all grow together as filmmakers for the future. My passions and interests involve anything that I can use to express myself creatively. No matter if it’s writing, filmmaking, photography, dancing, or music I use it all. Either one at a time or use them with one another. I believe all my passions and interests overlap because I am good at the things that contribute to what I want to do in life. I am good at communicating my perspectives, thoughts, and feelings using various platforms at my disposal. Because of all that I am very influenced by work and other creative individuals that communicate their perspectives through various platforms. One particular person and body of work that does influence me is Issa Rae and her show Insecure. It is essentially a show that depicts the real-life experiences of two Black women. I don’t like to say my dream job, I prefer to say dream career. I associate “job” with the idea you are working to live. Meanwhile “career” is living because of the work that you do. So my dream career is to work in the entertainment industry and use all of my passions and interests to do so. I want to write screenplays and direct both films, tv shows, and even music videos. I wish to even act someday and incorporate music and dance in my work. And in about 15 years I hope to own my own production entertainment companies where I can fund and produce various creative projects. To get me to where I want to be, I am going to work on myself as an artist. I am going to continue my studies at Montclair State to forge those relationships with people so that I can work with them in the future. The people I meet here can help me create our table instead of trying to sit at someone else’s. And hopefully, I can get an internship that will allow me to experience the industry first hand. When I want something I truly do work for it. It is how I was raised, it is how I motivate myself. That being said, my only way of getting to where I see myself is to work harder, not harder than other people, but work harder than I ever did before. I am going to always find a way top and better myself because the only person I compete with is myself.
